Robert Bown has been described as "the heartbeat of the local community"

Tributes have been paid to a "kind and generous" man who was killed in a crash in Stoke-on-Trent.

Robert Bown, 33, was hit by a grey Honda Civic on Weston Road, near the Weston Coyney traffic lights, at about 23:45 GMT on 16 December.

The pedestrian suffered serious injuries and died a short time later.

"He was a much-loved son, brother, partner and friend who was taken from us far too soon," his family and friends said.

'Heartbeat of community'

"Robert loved travelling the world but was never happier than when he returned to Weston Coyney, where he dedicated himself to Caverswall Cricket Club and was the heartbeat of the local community," they added.

The driver of the Honda stayed at the scene and has been helping Staffordshire Police with inquiries.

The force is appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage of the area during the time of the incident.

The crash happened near to Weston Coyney lights in the direction of Cellarhead.
