Airman killed near RAF Mildenhall named as Tyler Patton

An airman based at RAF Lakenheath who died when he was hit by a car at the gate of a US airforce base in Suffolk has been named.

Airman 1st Class Tyler Patton, 20, was a security forces apprentice with the 48th Security Forces Squadron.

He died outside the main gate at Mildenhall on the A1101 at Beck Row, on Monday.

Col William Lewis, 48th Fighter Wing vice commander, described him as a combat veteran and a true patriot.

Col Lewis added: "He will be sorely missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him."

Police are investigating the death.
