Suffolk's top 50 list revealed
- Published
Thumb wrestling, crabbing and a pea festival have been named among the top 50 things to do in Suffolk.
BBC Radio Suffolk and the East Anglian Daily Times have spent six weeks collecting and collating suggestions from the public.
Eating fish and chips in Aldeburgh, swimming at Beccles Lido and Ipswich Music Day have also made the list.
Presenter Mark Murphy said: "The amazing response shows the deep love and affection people have for Suffolk."
Six museums have made the list alongside visits to sporting attractions including Ipswich Town Football Club and the horses at Newmarket.
Leiston, Thorpeness, Covehithe, Hoxne, Lavenham and Shingle Street have each been given an entry of their own.
Suffolk's outdoors and wildlife is celebrated - with RSPB Minsmere, the Broads and a walk from Snape Maltings to Iken making the list.
Some of the more quirky entries include visiting Mabel, the resident tawny owl of Christchurch Park, the Peasenhall Pea Festival, a UFO walk in Rendlesham and the World Thumb Wrestling Championships in Lowestoft.
Food and drink was high on the list of contributors. Enjoying a pint of local ale was a popular choice, while the list also singles out Britain's smallest pub - the Nutshell in Bury St Edmunds - and, to the other extreme, Helmingham Hall's tea room.
Annual events including Ipswich Music Day, FolkEast and the Suffolk Walking Festival have made the cut, but the Latitude Festival has not.
