Ipswich stabbing: Boy, 17, dead after 'targeted' attack

A 17-year-old boy has died after being stabbed in a "targeted" attack involving several people.

The victim - named locally as Tavis Spencer Aitkens - had just left shops in Queen's Way, Ipswich, when he was attacked by two men on bicycles, witnesses said.

Four to five others are said to have joined them, continuing the attack until the offenders fled, police said.

A 41-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Police and paramedics arrived to find the boy seriously injured in Packard Avenue after they were called at about 16:50 BST on Saturday.

Early inquiries led detectives to believe it was a targeted attack, Suffolk Police said.

Packard Avenue remained closed for investigation and additional patrols have been put in place, a spokesman added.

Det Ch Insp Mike Brown of the Major Investigation Team described the attack as "cowardly and violent".

"Although we believe this to have been a targeted incident, we understand it will have caused a great deal of concern to the local community, so as a result residents can expect to see a heightened police presence over the coming days," he said.

The force appealed for anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage taken in Queen's Way, Packard Avenue, Rands Way or Kingsway between 12:00 and 19:45 BST on Saturday to come forward.
