A body has been recovered at the scene of a fire in a block of retirement flats in Surrey.

Surrey Police said the body was recovered from the Gibson Court, off Manor Road North, Hinchley Wood, on Friday afternoon.

Officers have not yet confirmed the identity of the person who died.

About 40 residents were moved out as fire crews tackled the blaze, which began in the early hours of Friday. The fire is still being investigated.

A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out early next week.
