Woking's pedestrian Bedser Bridge opens over canal

A new pedestrian footbridge spanning the Basingstoke Canal in Surrey has been opened.
The bridge, providing pedestrian, cycle and wheelchair access over the canal, has been named Bedser Bridge after local cricketing heroes Eric and Alex Bedser, Woking Borough Council said.
Statues of the pair are being commissioned to stand on plinths on either side of the canal.
The Bedser twins came from Horsell, in Woking.
Woking councillor John Kingsbury said the bridge played a vital role in linking Horsell with Woking town centre.
The new bridge, which has design features to match the Lightbox museum and gallery, will give split-level access to WWF-UK's Living Planet Centre, when it is completed.
WWF-UK's new headquarters are being built above the Brewery Road car park site.
The conservation charity has been at its current headquarters, Panda House in Godalming, for more than 20 years.
