A dedicated electric vehicle charging station with facilities for waiting passengers has opened at Gatwick Airport.

The forecourt has 24-hour-charging for 30 vehicles as well as a lounge, wi-fi, toilets and a coffee shop.

The airport says the facility is aimed at passengers, residents, commuters and business fleets.

A spokesman for Gatwick says it is "dedicated to provide a new infrastructure for everyone to use".

The facility at the West Sussex airport, which opened on Monday, is located on the ring road near South Terminal, off the M23.

It has high and low power electric vehicle chargers available via contactless payment.

Bronwen Jones, from Gatwick Airport, said: "We are making sustainability part of everything we do here and we are committed to creating a low-carbon economy by providing new infrastructure that everyone can use, so together we can reduce emissions."

The passenger building is open every day from 04:30 until 22:00, with chargers available all day throughout the year.
