Middlesbrough's Transporter Bridge shuts for repairs

Repair work to Middlesbrough's Transporter Bridge is not due to be completed until May, the council has said.
The landmark structure was closed in March after cracks were discovered on the upper booms.
Initially it was thought they would have to be replaced, but it has now been decided that welding would be a more cost-effective solution.
Councillor Nicky Walker apologised for any inconvenience caused.
The Grade II-listed structure, which opened in 1911, is one of only six of its type still operating in the world and the only one in England
Ms Walker said: "Problems will arise with any structure of this age and complexity.
"But we know how important the bridge is to people, and every effort is being made to find a long-term solution.
"I'd like to apologise for any inconvenience caused, and assure people that we will have the transporter back up and running as soon as possible."
While the repairs are being carried out a free bus service is in operation between the bridge and Port Clarence.
