The mother of a Hartlepool man who has been missing for almost two years has said she is is unable to celebrate Mothering Sunday without him.

Scott Fletcher, now 29, was last seen on 11 May 2011 in a lay-by opposite the Jet garage on the A181 at Wheatley Hill, near Durham.

It is the second Mother's Day Julie Fletcher has spent without her son and she said had been dreading the day.

Cleveland Police said the investigation into his disappearance was still open.

'Distressing time'

Julie Fletcher said: "Scott is still hugely missed.

"I find it extremely difficult to celebrate the day at all.

Supt Jon Green, of Cleveland Police, said: "This is clearly a distressing time for Scott's family, who just want assurance that he is safe and well and have him home with them.

"Julie deserves to know her son's whereabouts and it must be torture for her to not have him by her side on Mother's Day.

"Someone has information that will not only assist us but will ease Julie's mind about where Scott is and I would urge them to come forward."
