Professor Brian Cox calls for help for steelworkers
Popular TV academic Professor Brian Cox has called for training and support for the thousands SSI steelworkers on Teesside hit by the collapse of the firm.
Professor Cox was on Teesside to officially open Middlesbrough College's new £20m Stem Centre, an engineering training base where a number of former SSI staff have already been offered free or discounted courses.
He added that the pool of former steelworkers were in desperate need of specific support and training, and that the centre could prove a lifeline for many of them.
