Durham boxer shares ulcerative colitis story to inspire others

A professional boxer has shared her story of being diagnosed with ulcerative colitis (UC) on social media to help and inspire others.

For two years Georgia O'Connor from Quebec, County Durham, suffered from "unbearable" cramps, bowel problems - going to the toilet between 15 and 20 times per day - and constantly feeling tired and weak while competing.

In February 2023, the 24-year-old was diagnosed with UC, which causes inflammation and ulceration of the inner lining of the colon and rectum.

The undefeated champion hopes that after two years of keeping her condition a secret, sharing her story on social media will help others.

We met up with her at a training session at her local gym, Foundation for Good in Consett.
