Watch: What New Yorkers want Mamdani to do as mayor

During his campaign, Zohran Mamdani ran on making New York City affordable, with plans to make public buses free, lowering the cost of childcare and freezing rents. The 34-year-old democratic socialist will be sworn in as the city's major on 1 January 2026.

The BBC asked New Yorkers what issues they want Mamdani to prioritise once he's in office.
