Preparations are being made for the final flight from RAF Lyneham by the Hercules fleet of aircraft.
The base is due to close in 2012 and already around 1,400 military and civilian personnel have transferred to RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire.
At 1000 BST on Friday, the last planes departing the base will conduct a final flypast over Wiltshire.
The MOD made the decision to close RAF Lyneham in 2002 as part of a strategic review of military bases.
