North Yorkshire Police target holiday bikers

Police in North Yorkshire have targeted motorcyclists after a rise in the number of crash deaths.

North Yorkshire Police said six bikers had died on the county's roads since the start of the year, more than during the whole of 2012.

During the recent May Day holiday two motorcyclists died in separate incidents on the North York Moors.

The force said that for the first time it had deployed three mobile safety camera vans at accident hotspots.

Dave Brown, safety camera manager for North Yorkshire Police, said the vans would be targeting roads on the moors and coastal routes.

"With 6,000 miles of road and only three vehicles we have got our work set out in order to try and address that," he said.

The move comes just a day after a 42-year-old woman was killed when her bike was involved in a collision in the Yorkshire Dales.
