A woman who won an Oscar for her work on the film Poor Things has "created quite a buzz" at her former college, staff have said.

The work of Nadia Stacey, who previously studied media make-up at York College, won the best make-up and hairstyling Oscar earlier this month.

Meanwhile, fellow York student Freda Ellis won an Emmy in January for her make-up skills on TV show Wednesday.

The college said students had found "great inspiration" from their success.

Sharon Barrington, a former classmate of Ms Stacey who is now York College University Centre BA (Hons) programme lead for media make-up, special effects and hair design, said the Oscar-winner had told her she had "fond memories" of studying there between 2004 and 2006.

"We have swapped memories of the lovely tutor, Val Elliott, who we both admired during our studies together.

"Although Nadia is an extremely busy make-up designer, she has found the time to reach out and check in via Instagram and support our students."

Speaking about the recent recognition for the work of both Ms Stacey and Ms Ellis, who won the Emmy Award for outstanding contemporary make-up in January, Ms Barrington said: "We are truly proud two women who studied at York College have gone on to great success."

She added: "Students have found great inspiration and encouragement in knowing that one of us or, in fact, two of us have made it to the top and are well-known names in the television and film industry.

"The success of both Nadia and Freda this year has created quite a buzz in the department."
