One man remains in hospital after the crash

Six people have been taken to hospital, including one man with life-threatening injuries, after a four-car pile-up in North Yorkshire.

The crash took place on the A19 east of Northallerton, near Kirby Sigston, at about 15.30 BST on Tuesday.

The man who suffered life-threatening injuries remained in hospital on Wednesday, North Yorkshire Police said.

According to National Highways, the incident involved a vehicle crossing the central reservation.

The road was closed for several hours following the crash, with police, fire crews and the ambulance service all in attendance.

Police have appealed for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact them "straight away".
