Iain Duncan Smith on welfare, benefits and working

The secretary of state for work and pensions said the government was enforcing the simple principle that "work is better for you than benefits".

Iain Duncan Smith said that as part of a contract with the British taxpayer benefit claimants would not be able to turn down work and carry on claiming money.

He said the message for those on benefits would be: "You do what you are asked, if you don't, then we will make sure you don't get the money."
