Savile: Ben Bradshaw, John Whittingdale and Kevin Marsh
Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee chairman John Whittingdale said the BBC had made "a bad situation even worse" with its "lamentable" handling of the shelved Newsnight investigation into Jimmy Savile allegations.
He debated with former Culture Secretary Ben Bradshaw, who used to work for the BBC, who said it was incredible for the corporation to take three weeks to realise there were problems with Peter Rippon's blog entry about his team's investigation.
Kevin Marsh. former editor of the BBC Radio 4's Today programme, said he was puzzled why the Newsnight material was not passed to another outlet if the team had been so convinced of the strength of the claims.
