Attorney General Dominic Grieve on votes for prisoners

Attorney General Dominic Grieve said the British government could face "damages claims stacking up" if it refused to give the vote to prisoners.

The Westminster government is negotiating with the European Court after a ruling saying prisoners must get a vote at election times.

Mr Grieve spoke about options including UK either leaving the Council of Europe or being expelled from it. Most coalition MPs and Labour oppose giving prisoners the vote
