Chris Grayling on knife crime and votes for prisoners

The justice secretary said he may have to back votes for prisoners because of his constitutional duty to "uphold the law".

Chris Grayling said his other role as Lord Chancellor meant he was in a "different situation" to other MPs and ministers.

His interview with Andrew Neil also covered the length of jail terms and prisoner numbers, Ken Clarke's record and sentences for those convicted of knife crime.

He said he would not be "following policies that will lead to an artificial reduction in the prison population."
