Personal health budget spent on drum kit and sat-nav

People suffering from a long-term health condition in England will gain the right to take control of the money the health service spends on their treatment within two years.

Personal health budgeting, aimed at helping the NHS balance spending cuts with the growing demand on services, has been trialled in Northamptonshire.

Adam Fleming spoke to Alex Mycawka, who is recovering from a stroke, who explained why he spent his money on a drum kit and a sat-nav for his car and why he reckoned they were not a "frivolous" way to spend NHS money.

Gill Ruecroft from the Nene Clinical Commissioning Group and GP Dr Matthew Davies gave their view of the scheme and how people can spend their money.
