Energy Bill: Tim Yeo on government fossil fuels targets

The Conservative chairman of the Environment and Climate Change Committee has questioned the government's commitment to the green agenda and claimed it was sending out "mixed messages".

Tim Yeo said "investors were a bit confused" where the government stood on energy sources and carbon emissions.

He was speaking ahead of Wednesday's Second Reading of the Energy Bill, where he wants targets to phase out fossil fuels and to decarbonise electricity generation.

He told Jo Coburn that he backed fracking for shale gas, but said there was a need for low carbon technologies as well.

Mt Yeo called for "a balance of generation technologies" which he reckoned could lead to lower prices for customers.
