This House: Work of 1970s government whips on stage

The usually shadowy tactics of the Westminster's Whips' Office have been opened up to the public in a play about the Callaghan government of the 1970s.

Many votes were on a knife-edge and whips were even advised to use a screwdriver in an unusual way as part of their jobs.

It was witnessed by young Labour politician Ann Taylor, who was one of the first women to be a whip. Now Baroness Taylor, she spoke to Adam Fleming about bringing life from the era to the stage.

He also spoke to actress Lauren O'Neil and playwright James Graham.
