Syria: Ashdown says armed action option must remain

Options of returning to conflict and armed action must remain on the table "or diplomacy won't work", said Paddy Ashdown.

The former Liberal Democrat leader was speaking after delegates mainly spoke against the UK taking part in military action in Syria.

He said the USA and Russia were "working with a common interest" and could bring in Iran, which would open a "dynamic that might spread further in the Middle East".

Mr Ashdown also spoke to Jo Coburn, from his party's conference in Glasgow, about its opinion poll ratings.
