Air Passenger Duty (APD): UK has highest flights tax

The percentage taken in taxes for airline flights has steadily increased - some hailing it as a useful environmental measure to deter unnecessary travel, others claiming it stifles the economy and prevents businesses from growing.

In a personal film, Virgin Atlantic chief executive Craig Kreeger claimed the UK government took aviation "for granted in a way that no other government in the world does".

He said Air Passenger Duty (APD) was higher in Britain than the rest of the world, where some countries have - or are thinking of - abolishing it.
