Ken Clarke rules out return to front line Tory politics

A former chancellor, former home secretary and former health secretary said he "quite enjoyed the crises" in office, but was "not going back on the front bench ever again".

Ken Clarke reckoned "no-one would dream of inviting me back" when asked about his long career and previous comebacks.

He plans to stand again as the Tory candidate in Rushcliffe, but said of another role on the front line: "It was high time I retired when I stepped down last year."

He spoke to Jo Coburn on the Daily Politics about how his European views may have affected his chances of leadership, after they watched a film with some of his highlights.
