Labour leadership: Tom Watson named new deputy leader

Tom Watson has been elected as the new deputy leader of the Labour Party.

The West Bromwich East MP had been seen as the front runner in the campaign where he was up against Caroline Flint, Ben Bradshaw, Stella Creasy and Angela Eagle.

In his victory speech, Mr Watson said Britain had had "a Tory government for too long, but this has never been a Conservative country."

His victory was announced minutes ahead of the naming of Jeremy Corbyn as new party leader. Mr Corbyn succeeds Ed Miliband.
