Edinburgh's Hogmanay chiefs in New Year's Day line-up

Edinburgh's Hogmanay is to be expanded on to New Year's Day with singer KT Tunstall headlining the celebrations.

The Fife star will be joined by some of Scotland's leading singers, writers and poets in West Princes Street Gardens.

The move comes in a bid to entertain thousands of revellers who are still in the capital after its Hogmanay celebrations.

The special "resolution day" will celebrate home-grown talent.

Organisers are expecting more than 20,000 visitors to the New Year's Day event.

King Creosote, aka Fence Collective record label founder Kenny Anderson, and Scottish bands, Kassidy and Silver Columns will also play in the Gardens.

Dougie MacLean, Roddy Hart, Roddy Woomble, Tommy Reilly and Dick Gaughan are also to perform at The Mound on New Year's Day.

Leading writers AL Kennedy, Janice Galloway, John Burnside and Alan Spence are to write one-verse poems which will be beamed onto the side of the Royal Scottish Academy building for the occasion.

Edinburgh crime writers Ian Rankin and Lin Anderson are to take part in an "in discussion" event at the National Gallery of Scotland at The Mound.

The BBC's Young Traditional Musician of the Year, Daniel Thorpe, and Radio 2 Folk Award winners Julie Fowlis and Lau will also be at The Mound on New Year's Day.

Meanwhile on Hogmanay 80,000 revellers are expected to enjoy the city centre celebrations.

The Charlatans will be performing alongside headliners Biffy Clyro at the Concert in the Gardens on 31 December.

The world famous Street Party will feature live music, entertainment and DJ sets on four stages - the West End DJ Stage, Waverley Stage, Mound Party Stage and the new East End DJ Stage.

This year's line up includes 1960s-style psychedelic band, The Coral, plus special guests, Treacherous Orchestra and the winning band of Hog The Stage competition on the Waverley Stage.

DJ sets from the Kaiser Chiefs and Goldie Lookin Chain will be on the East End stage while international dance pioneers Booka Shade, Grum and friends will perform on the West End Stage.

On the Party DJ Stage, The Great Calverto hosts Michelle McManus, X-Factor singer Stephen Hunter and the Calverto-ettes.

Revellers will count down the last few seconds till the Midnight Moment, with a fireworks display over Edinburgh Castle, before linking arms for the World's Largest Auld Lang Syne.

"This year's programme promises to deliver yet another sensational way to celebrate the New Year in style from top bands and a breathtaking fireworks display to the best of Scottish writing and musical talent on 1 January, there's truly something for everyone."

"This year's fantastic programme will help cement Scotland's global reputation as a fantastic visitor destination and the best place in the world to see in the bells."
