Memorial service held for student David O'Halloran

A service has been held in Ayrshire to celebrate the life of a Stirling University student who died after going missing.

David O'Halloran went missing in January after a night out with friends in Stirling city centre.

The 18-year-old's body was discovered in wooded area near Bridge of Allan on 18 April. There were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

About 150 people were at the service in the teenager's hometown of Stewarton.

Family and friends were asked to wear bright and colourful clothes to remember him.

Dozens of tributes and anecdotes were read out.

'Loving and happy'

David's mother and aunt, cousins, friends from childhood and university, flatmates and work colleagues all spoke of his sense of fun and his caring nature.

His mother Donna said after the service that David would be best remembered as "loving, happy, cheery."

She described the large turnout as "beautiful".

Donations were taken for Children First and the International Voluntary Search Team.

Following Mr O'Halloran's death, Stirling University launched a scheme to help students who do not have enough money to get home from nights out during term time.

They can use their student ID card and signature as a deposit for their taxi fare.

The initiative has been developed by Stirling's Students' Union, 12 local taxi companies, police and Stirling Council.
