Indie band Belle and Sebastian have announced they will host a two-day festival in Glasgow this summer.

The group, which formed in the city in 1996, will headline the Glasgow Weekender event at the SWG3 venue on 2 and 3 August.

Belle and Sebastian said they had curated a line-up of established and emerging artists including Camera Obscura, CMAT, The Joy Hotel and Bis.

The group recently appeared in a Simpsons episode set in Scotland.

Singer Stuart Murdoch said the seven-piece band wanted to stage a home festival for some time, based on a format they first launched in 1999.

Then the band took over a Pontin's Holiday park in Sussex for the original Bowlie Weekender.

And in 2019 they invited thousands of fans on a four-day Mediterranean music cruise for the Boaty Weekender.

The Glasgow event will be held throughout the various spaces of SWG3, including the outdoor stage in the Galvanizers Yard.

Murdoch said: "We're going to have the run of the place for the whole weekend, great bands, great DJs, great food and sundry 'Bowlie' type activities.

"It's still in the middle of winter, but we're glad we have something to look forward to, a sunny happening on the banks of the Clyde."

Organisers said the festival, over the weekend of 2 and 3 August, will also feature collaborations and surprises.

Belle and Sebastian fans can sign up for pre-sale access ahead of a general sale at 10:00 on Friday.
