Entries sought for Scotland's oldest design awards

Rural Design's Fiscavaig property on Skye won awards last year

Scotland's oldest design awards scheme has launched its call for entries to its 2011 competition.

Categories of the Saltire Society Housing Design Awards were won by architect practices on Skye and in Perthshire and Aberdeen last year.

A new prize has been added for this year - the innovation in housing award.

Judges will also be considering properties built on the site of Scotland's Housing Expo in Inverness in the society's 75th anniversary year.

Last year, Skye's Rural Design was the first recipient of the Saltire Medal. The firm also picked up the top honour in the private dwelling and new build category.

The honours were for its timber house at Fiscavaig on Skye.

Perthshire-based Colin Andrew Smith Architect also won an award in the private dwelling category for its Rock House.

Glasgow's Elder and Cannon Architects took the large-scale housing development award for Queens Gate in Clydebank.

Archial Architects, which has its headquarters in London, and Glasgow-based Studio KAP were the winners in the renovations, alterations and extensions section.

Aberdeen-based Gokay Deveci was honoured in the small-scale housing development category.

The awards seek to recognise and reward excellence and innovation in house building, master-planning, and housing design in Scotland.
