Vessels to take passengers and cars across Loch Carron as part of measures to deal with a closed road will not be introduced this week as planned.

The A890 near Plockton was shut by landslides last month.

Highland Council said the section was likely to remain closed for a further two weeks while contractors investigate further potential risks to the route.

It had hoped a tourist boat and a small car ferry would help ease travel between Plockton and Lochcarron.

The tourist boat is now expected to be introduced on Monday, while the six-car ferry Glenachulish will undergo trials on Wednesday.

Schoolchildren whose normal travel by road to Plockton High School has been disrupted by the closure are making part of the journey by train.

The A890 is open as far as Strathcarron from where the youngsters take the train to Plockton.

Meanwhile, the B9176 Struie road at Newbridge in Easter Ross has reopened following a landslide last week.

Highland Council said traffic lights were in operation at the stretch of road which had been reduced to a single lane until repairs have been completed.
