Meeting on A890 Stromeferry bypass in Wester Ross options

A long-term solution to the trouble-hit A890 Stromeferry bypass in Wester Ross could cost an estimated £115m, Highland Council has said.
The latest in a number of landslides to affect the route closed it from 22 December 2011 to 23 April this year and cost the council £2.8m to deal with.
The bypass plays a part in taking traffic around Loch Carron.
Highland Council said options included a bridge, 1.2 mile (2km) tunnel and a new bypass.
Estimated costs of the solutions run from £23m to £115m.
The local authority will outline its proposals at <link> <caption>an exhibition and public meeting on 25 June</caption> <altText>Link to Highland Council information on public meeting</altText> <url href="http://www.highland.gov.uk/yourcouncil/news/newsreleases/2012/June/2012-06-13-04.htm" platform="highweb"/> </link> .
Graham Philips, chairman of transport environmental and community services, said the council was honouring a commitment to discuss with local communities solutions to the bypass.
He added: "We appreciate fully the inconvenience the local communities have suffered as a result of past and more recent prolonged periods of closure caused by rockfall.
"We will welcome the views of the public on the options we will be displaying at the exhibition and others that we may have overlooked.
"This will be the first of a number of consultations with the public as we take the project through its various stages of design development."
