Overcrowded Inverness primary schools 'a serious issue'

Highland Council is to begin work to find solutions for "serious" overcrowding problems at primary schools in Inverness.

Rapid population growth over the past decade has put strains on schools such as Hilton, Inshes, Holm and Lochardil.

New primaries at Milton of Leys and the city's Gaelic school have also had rising rolls.

The council is considering the construction of a new primary at Ness-side and a second Gaelic school.

New-style temporary accommodation could also be provided at existing sites.

Education committee chairman Alasdair Christie said overcrowding was a "serious issue that needed to be properly addressed".
