Amazon has acquired the UK rights to the US TV series Outlander.

Described as Scotland's answer to Game of Thrones, Outlander follows the story of Claire Randell, a nurse from 1946 who is swept back in time to 1743.

The TV series, which features Doune Castle and Loch Ness, is based on novels by US author Diana Gabaldon.

The first eight episodes of Outlander season one will be available on Prime Instant Video from 26 March and the rest from 5 April.

Starz broadcasts Outlander in the US.

The first season attracted five million viewers a week and a second season of the series will start in America in April.
