Noss Primary shut for second time by a burst pipe

A burst water pipe has shut a Highlands school for the second time since it opened last year.

Noss Primary in Wick was opened to pupils and staff in April 2016 following construction at a cost of £15.4m.

Just weeks later it was shut down after a boiling hot water pipe burst.

Highland Council has had to close the school again after a water pipe burst on Tuesday evening. The "quick actions" of staff minimised the damage.

Councillors have called for assurances that the building is safe.

'Necessary repairs'

A spokesperson for Highland Council said: "Due to the quick action of the staff and head teacher of Noss Primary the damage caused by a burst water pipe last evening was kept to a minimum.

"The council is currently carrying out inspections and will make all necessary repairs and recover costs where possible."

A school trip the pupils were due to go on has been cancelled.

The primary was built as a replacement for Wick's North and Hillhead primary schools.

Last year's incident involved a boiling hot water pipe bursting above two classrooms.
