Gyrocopter pilot dies as aircraft crashes on Black Isle

The pilot of a gyrocopter has died after the aircraft crashed on the Black Isle in the Highlands.

Police said the man was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash near Avoch, a village on the Moray Firth coast.

The gyrocopter, which has a rotor similar to a helicopter, came down in a field at about 12:55.

Officers said the pilot was the only person on board, and his family have been informed.

The Scottish Ambulance Service sent a community responder and Pre-hospital Immediate Care and Trauma team from Inverness.

The initial emergency response to the incident also included Inverness Coastguard helicopter, which was later stood down.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch will investigate the crash.

A spokeswoman said: "We have been notified of an accident involving a gyrocopter near Avoch.

"A team of inspectors are on their way to commence an investigation."
