Funeral held for gun death gamekeeper Calum Murray

Calum Murray is believed to have shot himself after accidentally killing his girlfriend

The funeral of a trainee gamekeeper who died in a double shooting in Moray has been held.

It is believed trainee gamekeeper Calum Murray, 18, was cleaning a shotgun when it went off and killed Sophie Taylor, 16.

It is thought he then turned the gun on himself during the incident at a cottage near Tomintoul on 12 April.

Mr Murray's funeral was at Leochel-Cushnie Church in Alford, Aberdeenshire.

A statement released by his family said: "Calum was extremely popular and his death in such tragic circumstances has left a gap in our lives. It is impossible to describe the sense of loss we are feeling.

"There is an immense sadness to have lost him so prematurely but we are thankful for the wonderful memories that he has left us and those will be cherished forever."

The statement added: "We have been touched by the support we have had from family and friends who have all been touched by Calum's warm personality and the turnout today is testament to the kind of person that he was."

A celebration of the life of Mr Murray's girlfriend Sophie - said to be a "precious" daughter - is at the Lecht Ski Centre on Monday at 1300 BST.

She will then be buried at Tomintoul Cemetery.

Police have said they are not looking for anyone else over the deaths.
