Operation Maple in Aberdeen hailed a success a year on

More than 230 people have been arrested and £330,000 of drugs taken off Aberdeen's streets one year into a major crackdown, it has been revealed.

Operation Maple was launched by Grampian Police last October with the aim of reducing drug crime in the city.

It was also aimed at helping victims, their families and the community escape the cycle of offending and addiction.

The latest dawn raids were held on Thursday, with drugs seized and four more arrests.

'Crucial information'

Ch Supt Adrian Watson said the initiative would continue.

He explained: "The statistics speak for themselves and there have been some real successes in terms of removing drugs - and a number of offenders - from the communities where they have caused such misery.

"What we have seen is a real willingness among the communities themselves to stand up and offer information which has been crucial."

Heroin, cocaine and cannabis have been among the drugs seized.
