Fresh plans for Shetland secondary education

  • Published

Proposals to change secondary education in Shetland - including closing two schools - have been published.

It has been recommended that Aith Junior High's secondary department close next summer.

Sandwick's secondary department would shut two years later, or earlier if there was space for pupils at Anderson High School in Lerwick.

Pupils from Unst, Yell and Whalsay would transfer to Lerwick after second year instead of fourth year at present.

Councillors will debate the proposals - aimed at saving the island authority as much as £3.25m by 2016 - next week.
