Haudagain roundabout: Aberdeen City Council seeks financial guarantee

Aberdeen City Council has agreed to proceed with the Haudagain roundabout upgrade subject to a "written financial guarantee" from the Scottish government.

The roundabout at the bottom of Anderson Drive is a bottleneck.

The finance, policy and resources committee members voted to call for "legally binding documentation".

The council said up to 120 homes in Middlefield would have to be demolished to make way for the new road layout.

Transport Minister Keith Brown responded: "Time and again, the Scottish government has repeated its commitment to improving Haudagain and to pay for it.

"Our position remains just that."

In August, councillors voted to press ahead with improvements to one of Aberdeen's worst traffic problem areas within two years.

The £3m design contract was awarded to Jacobs in April.
