A proposal to merge two pairs of Aberdeen primary schools has been thrown out by the city council's education committee.

The plan to merge Middleton Park and Glashieburn schools, and Bramble Brae with Quarryhill, had caused a backlash from parents.

Education, culture and sport convener Jenny Laing said in December the plans were set to be dropped.

The committee ruled on Thursday all four should remain open.

The committee heard it was a "victory" for parents, pupils, teachers and the communities involved after a "robust" campaign.
