Police name man killed in Christmas Day crash on Shetland

Police closed the road for several hours on Christmas Day after an 84-year-old man was killed in a crash between Bixter and Tresta in Shetland.

Police closed a section of the A791 for several hours on Christmas Day

Police have named an 84-year-old man who died following a Christmas Day crash on Shetland.

Harry Johnson from Bixter was critically injured in a two-car crash on the A791, between Bixter and Tresta, at about 16:10 on Monday.

He was driving a grey Volkswagen Golf which was in collision with a blue Volkswagen Sharan.

Police said he later died in Gilbert Bain Hospital in Lerwick. A 39-year-old woman was also injured in the incident.

Sgt Ally Mackay said his thoughts were with the family and friends of the man who died.

He said: "We are still appealing to anyone who saw the collision, or the grey Volkswagen Golf and blue Volkswagen Sharan prior to the incident to please contact us, external."
