A new surgical admission unit is being opened at Borders General Hospital.

A total of £347,000 has been spent turning the former ward 8 into a made-for-purpose surgery unit.

Mary Wilson, who chairs NHS Borders, said it showed they were putting "patient safety and quality of care" at the heart of their services.

She said the new unit would enable them "to deliver high quality health care at the right time and in the most appropriate way".

"It really is an important step forward in providing quality health care to meet the needs of the people of the Borders," she added.
