Borders and Dumfries hospital wards hit by norovirus

A ward at Borders General Hospital has been closed to admissions and one at Dumfries Infirmary remains shut due to outbreaks of the norovirus.

NHS Borders said all necessary infection control measures had been put in place at the Melrose site.

Visitors have been urged to avoid going to the hospital if they have suffered symptoms of the winter vomiting bug.

At the peak of the Dumfries Infirmary outbreak three wards were shut but two have now reopened.

A total of 37 patients and 13 staff have been affected at the Dumfries and Galloway site.
