Boy band Union J will perform at the Youth Beatz festival in Dumfries this summer, it has been announced.

Scouting for Girls and Neon Jungle will also headline the event, which is billed as Scotland's biggest free music festival.

About 12,000 young people are expected at the show in the town's Dock Park on 8 August.

In the run-up to the concert, the Youth Beatz fringe will host a series of events throughout Nithsdale.

Dance and theatre shows are expected to feature in the week-long festival.

It is the seventh year the event has been held in Dumfries.

Dumfries provost Ted Thompson said: "It's the largest free event in Scotland and we are proud of that.

"We have some critics who think we should charge but I don't think they realise the tremendous amount of work that goes into it by volunteers and by young people themselves and I think it's just terrific value."
