Ministers agree to extension of Glenkerie wind farm

Plans to extend a wind farm in the Borders are back on track, following a decision by the Scottish government.

Scottish Borders Council had rejected plans to add an extra six turbines to Glenkerie wind farm, near Tweedsmuir.

Renewable energy firm Infinis, external lodged an appeal against the decision with Scottish Ministers.

The government's directorate for planning and environmental appeals has allowed the appeal and granted planning permission, subject to 34 conditions, external.

Two community councils as well as walkers and hill-running groups had objected to proposals to expand the 11-turbine wind farm.

Planning officials had advised approval but councillors turned down the plans.
