Police were called out after a llama escaped from a fun park in Dumfries.

The incident happened at about 02:20 on Wednesday when a member of the public reported seeing the animal at the side of the Edinburgh Road.

Police found it standing in the middle of the road and started their efforts to encourage it back into a field at the nearby Dalscone Farm Fun park.

A spokesman said they managed to return it after it had "enjoyed around one hour of freedom".

A post on the Dumfries and Galloway division's Facebook page said it had come as something of a surprise.

"As police officers we undertake lots of training to make sure we can respond to any situation," it said.

"However, we must have missed the page about dealing with an escaped llama in the middle of Dumfries during our nightshifts!

"But ever the professionals it was no prob-llama for our cops who alpaca'd his bags and returned him home."
