Dumfries and Galloway Christmas bin collections detailed after outcry
- Published
A council has detailed its festive bin collection arrangements after there was an outcry earlier this year when its services were interrupted.
The Dumfries and Galloway authority was heavily criticised for the lack of provision over the Easter weekend.
It pledged to improve communications in order to avoid any repeat of the problems.
It has now published a detailed programme of collection days over Christmas and the New Year, external.
The problem arose after staff who had previously worked on bank holidays decided to take the days off.
It prompted hundreds of adverse comments on a council Facebook post highlighting the issue.
That led to a promise to ensure the "extremely important service" was maintained in future.
The council has now put a list of its festive opening hours online with a detailed explanation of what will happen at Christmas and the New Year.
No collections will be made on 25 and 26 December or 1 and 2 January but staff have agreed to work overtime to provide alternative arrangements.
Bins due to be picked up on the Monday and Tuesday will be emptied on the Saturday and Sunday beforehand.
Collections on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will take place as normal.
