Real Bash Street being created in honour of Beano kids

The Bash Street Kids first appeared in the Beano in 1954

Dundee is set to create its own Bash Street in honour of badly behaved Beano school pupils The Bash Street Kids.

The city council has approved the plans which were being considered for a location the city's west end.

The proposal was put forward by Beano comic publishers DC Thomson, which is based in Dundee.

The Bash Street Kids have featured in the comic since 1954, when they first appeared in a strip called When the Bell Rings.

Plans included a street map of Dundee containing the new Bash Street name on a road in West Marketgait, which currently has no name.

The Beano was created in 1938 and the pupils and staff of Bash Street School made their first appearance in the 50s.

The characters of Class 2B were reputedly inspired by the pupils of the High School of Dundee, who could be seen by the comic-strip artists at neighbouring DC Thomson's former HQ in Meadowside.

Dundee already has statues of Desperate Dan and Minnie the Minx in the city centre.
